Thursday January 20 Picks

Thursday January 20

Hopefully a new week brings me some better luck. Although I do like to believe handicapping isn't all luck! Thursdays card isn't that great but I do think there is some value and money to be made. Always seems that way really? Lesser talent supplying potential huge prices, plus the combination with most races being trotters. Anything is possible!

Starting at a poor = -$263

Race 2
1) Captain Primeau - Always capable of winning, especially from the rail, but always always prone to a break. Hard to leave out but be careful of a short price. I wouldn't make a bet relying on this guy alone.

3) Four Starz Foxy - Only 12 starts last year so he should be fresh right? Last qualifier looks a little bland on paper, but the previus start looks strong. Makes him a tough call. Maybe watch the tote board?

7) Chaplin Hall - Last line is a qualifier that isn't exactly eye opening, but takes a drop from previous races. Also shows Open and Invites, although at a lesser track. If ready, gotta give him a shot. Also my pick for the Survival challenge! Should offer a nice price too!

5$ Exacta Key Box 7 w 1/3 = $20
20$ Win 7 = $20

Race 7
4) Fortissimo - With a win in last and keeping Sears you'll give a second look, but that may be all. Shows two breaks and a lot of lag behind finishers. I hope he takes money, and burns it!

5) Political Muscle - Lots of in the money finishes lately! If speed is holding up in the earlier races this one has a great shot. Nice post to be versatile, but I predict right to the top. Have to use.

6) Willie Count - Chose this for the challenge. Hoping he offers a bit of a price. Forced 2 wide at the half and looked like he might have been first over after that? Tough to tell on the proram, and I did not see the race. Showing two moves and holding for third gives him the edge for me!

9) Morven - Similar post from last where he left and got a nice tuck. Looks like he mighta been jammed in a bit late and ended up just missing. If Macdonald can get this one into it he's got a shot. Only thing I don't like is doesn't show much outer tier action. From the 9 hole, however, he may be forced to be there.

$5 Tri 4/5/6 w 4/5/6 w 3/4/6/9 = $60
$10 Win 6 = $10

Race 10
1) Sand Pleasure - Hasn't raced in a little over a month, but the qualifier looks good. She came home in a solid 27.3 and finished in a respectable 1:54 flat. Shows much higher conditioned races than this and from the rail it seems like she has a lot going for her. Can't ignore.

2) Sand E Fiftyfive - Throw the last one out. 8 post on a half mile track in it's highest condition. Before that, in similar classes, she was doing well. Probably will try and leave and get a nice position early. If she gets the lead, might not look back!

5) Pay Tribute - Another who shows higher conditions, NW$18,000. When dropped back down, she shows up with a second and third place finish. Good post to be versatile as she shows both leaves and tucks in the program. MAY offer a bit of value too!

9) Shayna Baby - I was going to pick this on in the last challenge when she lit up the tote board, but I didn't and I ended up kicking myself for it! Anyway, with a FMPREF-HCP at Freehold, a NW$25,000 and WO$25,000LT at Chester you can't leave this one out of a NW$6,000. Only knock is post, but if Gingras gets her close, look out!

$5 Tri 1/9 w 1/5/9 w 1/2/5/9 = $40

Start = -$263
Today Play = -$150
Total = -$413 (LETS GO! I need some winners!)

: :Other Notes: :

Race 1
1) Zeitgeist - First, I must point out there is a documentary/movie called Zeitgeist, and it's very interesting. Back to racing! This horse paid huge odds not too long ago and has since been one of the favorites. From the rail it's hard to argue, and with Sears.

4) Ellen's Isle - Hard to argue this team Miller trotter. When you get an article about the horse, must be good, right? haha

Race 3
1) Doully - First over into wind and now gets the rail. Big advantage of Dolce Ducci. This might be a real short exacta.

8) Dolce Ducci - Another that got an article, so we gotta respect right? haha. Did look pretty impressive in last drawing a way late. But the fractions weren't all that quick if I recall?
